Man sentenced to 20 years jail in POCSO case

Khammam: A court in Khammam district sentenced a 27-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 after finding him guilty in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to the police, the case was registered at Raghunathapalem Police Station following a complaint lodged by the parents of a minor girl, alleging that the accused had taken her away from her residence and sexually assaulted her.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case. Police said the investigation was completed expeditiously and a charge sheet was filed before the court after collecting evidence and recording witness statements.
After examining the evidence, witness testimonies and medical reports, the First Fast Track Court-cum-Additional District and Sessions Court Judge, B Srinivasa Rao, held the accused guilty and awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs 30,000.
Additional Public Prosecutor Sharath Kumar Reddy represented the prosecution during the trial.
Khammam Police Commissioner Sunil Dutt appreciated the efforts of the investigating officers, prosecution team and other officials who assisted in securing the conviction.
Police said the coordinated efforts of the investigation and prosecution teams played a key role in ensuring justice in the case.
