AP’s first pilot training centre is set for launch in Kurnool
Kurnool: Andhra Pradesh is set to get its first pilot training centre at Kurnool Airport, with Orient Flights Aviation Academy, part of Chennai-based Hindustan Group of Institutions, ready to commence operations.
The Mysuru-based academy has established the centre on 1.25 acres at the airport, featuring a training building and an adjoining hangar. Facilities have been created to accommodate four training aircraft, along with a small Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility for servicing and repairs of the academy’s aircraft. A taxiway connecting the airport runway with the training centre has been made available to facilitate smooth movement of training aircraft.
The academy plans to provide advanced pilot training using flight simulators and other modern facilities. Developed in accordance with international standards and the norms prescribed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the centre involved an investment of around Rs 100 crore.
Orient Flights Aviation Academy has been offering pilot training at Mysuru for the past 12 years and is now preparing to launch its second centre at Kurnool. The academy operates single-engine and multi-engine training aircraft of Cessna and Tecnam brands. Three training aircraft currently based at Mysuru will be shifted to Kurnool, and a successful trial run has already been conducted, paving the way for the formal launch.
At present, students attending classes in Kurnool are sent to Mysuru for practical flight training. With the new academy operational, they will be able to complete both classroom instruction and flying practice at Kurnool Airport, offering a more convenient and integrated programme. The academy is also planning to introduce courses for ground staff, cabin crew and air-hostess positions in the coming days, expanding aviation training opportunities in the region.
