Three brothers drown in Godavari River during Basara pilgrimage

Khanapur: Three brothers from the same family tragically drowned in the Godavari River at Basara in Nirmal district on Tuesday while on a pilgrimage to seek the blessings of Goddess Saraswati.
The deceased were identified as Chandrasekhar (38), Ramachander (36) and Mallesh Kumar (31), residents of Chappal Bazaar in Kachiguda, Hyderabad. The brothers had travelled to Basara along with their family members for darshan at the famous Saraswati temple.
According to police, before proceeding to the temple, the brothers entered the Godavari River for a ritual bath.
While bathing near the Triple IT Intech wall area, they reportedly ventured into a deep-water zone and were swept away.
Rescue swimmers and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel launched a search operation and recovered the bodies after more than an hour of efforts.
The bodies were shifted to the Government Hospital in Bhainsa for postmortem examination. Police said the victims were unfamiliar with the depth of the river at the spot where the incident occurred.
The tragic loss of three brothers from the same family cast a pall of gloom over Basara.
Grieving relatives broke down at the scene, while local residents expressed shock and sorrow over the incident. Police registered a case and initiated an investigation.
