President Donald Trump has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on achieving a historic feat as India's longest-serving elected premier, among a number of global leaders. The same message was shared by Trump in his Truth Social platform late Wednesday night, with him referring to the Indian leader as a friend. In his post, Trump expressed his admiration for Modi as a strong, healthy, and wise leader, stating that many more years of success and greatness are yet to come.
Prime Minister Modi later posted a tweet acknowledging the gesture by the great American leader, Trump. Modi spoke about his desire to work closely with the American president to advance the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic partnership and to continually build momentum, and stated that enhanced India-US relations bring real dividends to both countries and the wider world.
The latest interaction comes as part of a series of meetings between the two leaders, who had other engagements recently. They also announced their joint endeavours for an economically reciprocal arrangement to resolve bilateral tariff issues earlier this year and spoke by phone about West Asian security and mutual cooperation. Trump delivered his message after a series of congratulatory responses from other key international leaders, including Giorgia Meloni, the Prime Minister of Italy; Friedrich Merz, the Chancellor of Germany; Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel; and Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada.
