AIIMS Delhi Team Conducts Second Autopsy Of Twisha Sharma After High Court Order
A four-member AIIMS Delhi medical team conducted a second autopsy on actor Twisha Sharma in Bhopal following Madhya Pradesh High Court directions and objections raised by her family over the first post-mortem.
A team of doctors from AIIMS Delhi on Sunday began conducting a second autopsy on former model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma in Bhopal after the Madhya Pradesh High Court directed a fresh examination of the body.
Twisha Sharma, 33, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12. Her family has accused her in-laws of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide, while her in-laws claimed she was struggling with drug addiction.
According to family sources, the four-member medical board from AIIMS Delhi was requested to follow a multidisciplinary forensic, pathological and radiological approach while carrying out the second autopsy. The family alleged that several crucial aspects were not properly examined during the first post-mortem conducted in Bhopal.
The AIIMS Delhi team arrived in Bhopal on Saturday night and initiated the examination on Sunday in line with the high court’s May 22 order. Family members stated that Twisha’s last rites would be performed later in the evening following the procedure.
Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, had earlier submitted a detailed representation to the medical board highlighting concerns related to the initial autopsy. The objections included alleged blunt force injuries on her left arm and forearm, insufficient dissection to determine the nature and age of injuries, and the absence of radiological examination of the neck and cervical structures.
The family also demanded a toxicological analysis of preserved viscera samples and sought examination of whether injuries and medical findings were consistent with hanging, strangulation, suffocation or any other possible cause of death.
Police have registered an FIR against Twisha’s husband, lawyer Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, former district judge Giribala Singh, on charges related to dowry harassment.
Samarth Singh, who had reportedly been absconding for nearly 10 days, was arrested in Jabalpur on Friday. A Bhopal court later sent him to seven-day police custody for further investigation.
