  • The TMC crisis deepens as MP Kalyan Banerjee issues a shocking ultimatum to Mamata Banerjee over nephew Abhishek’s "arrogance."
  • The question arises that will TMC split amid rifts going inside their political parties?

The rift between various groups of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has now come to a head. Kalyan Banerjee, the veteran leader and loyalist of the party, has given Mamata Banerjee an ultimatum, which includes choosing between him and Abhishek Banerjee. He clearly stated, “Choose Abhishek Banerjee or me.”

The internal revolt comes after a massive defeat at the polls for the BJP and will likely spell the end of the unheard-of movement by MPs and MLAs in West Bengal's ruling party, which could split it up for good.

Kalyan Banerjee slams Abhishek for his arrogance and states that he wouldn't tolerate it.

Four-time MP Kalyan Banerjee, who has been practising law for 45 years, spoke out against TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Thursday. Kalyan, while remaining loyal to "Didi" (Mamata Banerjee), has made it clear that he will no longer tolerate her nephew's leadership style.

I am still with Didi, but I won't tolerate Abhishek Banerjee's arrogance. He believes that everyone is less than him, that they are all just like Camac Street employees, Kalyan Banerjee told reporters.

Following the split, Kalyan immediately announced that he would no longer take on any of Abhishek Banerjee's legal matters.

The high-profile legal issue that sparked the public meltdown was the lack of communication between the veteran leader and others. After police raids at the offices of Mamata and Abhishek in Kolkata, Kalyan had been working on an urgent plea to the Calcutta High Court all night.

However, when another lawyer suddenly filed a writ petition without seeking Kalyan's consent, he disclosed that he was completely off the case.

"Their habit of showing disrespect has not changed," Kalyan stated, expressing frustration at being ordered around despite his senior standing. "This morning, I told Didi: choose between Abhishek Banerjee and me. He assures that if Mamta Banerjee decides to go with Abhishek, then he will decide his own course.

Meanwhile, 58 TMC lawmakers, who represent more than three-quarters of the party's MLAs, disowned Abhishek Banerjee's leadership earlier this month. The rebel camp has already taken over the Leader of the Opposition's berth in Bengal, led by Ritabrata Banerjee.

A major exodus is underway in New Delhi, with many people leaving. Renowned figures such as Sushmita Dev and Prakash Baraik recently joined the BJP after resigning from their Rajya Sabha seats, which created a lot of buzz. In addition, TMC MP Kakoli Ghosh recently said that she has 19 other MPs, a significant enough number to get her out of the anti-defection law, backing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
