Former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai is reportedly planning to launch a new political party after declining BJP offers, amid speculation over his future and differences over key political issues.

Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai is reportedly preparing to launch a new political party, marking a potentially significant development in the state's political landscape. According to sources, the former IPS officer has declined all positions offered by the BJP leadership and is now considering an independent political path centred on a nationalist ideology.

The development comes amid growing speculation about Annamalai’s future within the BJP. Sources indicate that he recently met senior BJP leaders, including national secretary BL Santhosh and party president Nitin Nabin, as discussions over his role within the organisation continued. However, he is said to have turned down proposals that reportedly included key organisational responsibilities and a possible Rajya Sabha nomination.

Sources further claim that Annamalai has no plans to join any existing political formation in Tamil Nadu. He has reportedly ruled out aligning with parties such as Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and is instead focusing on building his own political platform.

Political observers believe the decision may be linked to recent developments involving the BJP’s alliance strategy in Tamil Nadu and concerns over the party’s positioning on issues related to the Dravidian political narrative. While Annamalai has not made any official announcement, the possibility of a new party has generated considerable interest among his supporters.

Speculation intensified after posters featuring Annamalai appeared across Coimbatore carrying the slogan “Fearless minds gave no limits.” The campaign has been widely interpreted as a signal of his future political plans. At the same time, his fan-based welfare organisation, Annamalai Anbu Koottam, has reportedly begun enrolling new members and office-bearers, further fuelling rumours of an organisational expansion.

Questions about his future also gained momentum after he reportedly skipped two key BJP state committee meetings. Additionally, differences over certain policy issues, including the implementation timeline of the three-language formula in schools, have added to reports of a widening gap between Annamalai and sections of the party leadership.

His strained relationship with ally AIADMK ahead of the Assembly elections is also believed to have contributed to the current situation. Controversial remarks concerning prominent Dravidian leaders reportedly deepened the divide and eventually played a role in leadership changes within the Tamil Nadu BJP unit.

Although there has been no official confirmation from Annamalai, political circles are closely watching his next move, which could reshape electoral dynamics in Tamil Nadu ahead of future elections.
