Nalgonda: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s recent visit to Nalgonda district and the massive public meeting has allegedly exposed deep-rooted factionalism within the ruling party, bringing long-simmering internal differences into the public eye. Developments before and during the meetinghighlighted the growing rivalry among local Congress leaders, making Nalgonda’s political scene a topic of discussion across Telangana.

It all began traces to the beginning. District Congress Committee (DCC) president, Punna Kailash Netha was officially responsible for coordinating the programme.

However, he reportedly faced repeated setbacks during the event due to his strained relationship with the camp of Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.

His photograph, along with that of Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukender Reddy, was missing from official flex banners and publicity material, triggering widespread speculation. There were even rumours that Kailash might be placed under house arrest to prevent him from attending the meeting.

However, defying the speculation, he appeared directly on the Chief Minister’s stage. Political observers noted that Revanth’s decision to mention Kailash Netha by name during his speech was seen as a clear gesture of recognition, which supporters interpreted as a political setback for his rivals.

Venkat Reddy camp’s setback?

While Kailash Netha emerged with renewed political visibility, two close associates of Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy faced an embarrassing moment. Nalgonda Town Congress President Gummula Mohan Reddy and former Municipal Chairman Burri Srinivas Reddy attempted to enter the main stage but were stopped by Chief Minister’s Office security personnel due to protocol and security restrictions. The incident became a major talking point, with opposition groups within the district Congress viewing it as a symbolic blow to the minister’s camp.

Another significant development was the absence of Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy. While MPs, MLAs and MLCs from the district attended the public meeting, Rajagopal Reddy stayed away, adding weight to speculation that he remains unhappy over being left out of the recent state cabinet expansion. Ahead of the event, police detained several of his supporters who reportedly planned to protest demanding a ministerial berth for him.

Although the public meeting itself was considered successful, the event highlighted the widening divisions within the district Congress. Political analysts believe Revanth attempted to assert his authority over district politics by publicly acknowledging the DCC president despite the influence of local ministers.

The Nalgonda meeting may have showcased the Congress government’s development agenda, but it also revealed that internal rivalries remain one of the party’s biggest challenges in the district.
