Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to visit Delhi on Wednesday afternoon for a two-day visit, where he is likely to seek approval and funding for the Polavaram project.
Naidu is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday and hold talks with Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil. He may also meet with other Union ministers to discuss pending state issues, infrastructure projects, funding and approvals.
Among the key requests expected to come up for discussion are about ₹33,000 crore for acquisition of land and relief and rehabilitation (R&R) funds for people displaced by the Polavaram project. Naidu is expected to argue for rehabilitation to occur parallel to construction.
He is also likely to seek about ₹2,300 crore for an iconic bridge that would connect the Polavaram spillway with the national highway. The state government wants it to be completed in time for completion of the Polavaram project.
Discussions that are likely to happen with Patil include the progress of the first phase of Polavaram, preparations for the second phase, acquisition of land, rehabilitation and supporting infrastructure.
The visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of Modi assuming office as Gujarat Chief Minister on 7 October 2001.
