The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu and the Union Minister of Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, have laid foundation stones for 300,000 houses at Burripalem, Guntur district.

These houses have been approved in the state of Andhra Pradesh under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) 2.0 on a demand made by the state government. The program is meant to expedite the building of rural housing and homes for poor people.

The event also marked the launch of a pilot project using 3D concrete-printing technology to build homes in Burripalem and Obulanayudupalem. The project is being carried out jointly by the Union Ministry of Rural Development, CSIR-CBRI Roorkee and the Andhra Pradesh government.

The supplied figures differ on the project’s scale: one section refers to 175 homes, while another says 177. The plans include homes of about 25 square metres, as well as larger accessible units, with toilets provided. The estimated cost is around ₹13.93 crore.

The government said 550,000 homes had been handed over since the coalition government took office, while work was under way on a further 420,000. It aims to complete these by March next year.

The pilot will assess the speed, quality and cost-effectiveness of 3D printing for rural housing. If successful, the technology could be considered for wider use in future housing programmes.
