Rs 3.5 crore AMRUT facelift launched for Pedda Cheruvu

Nandyal: State Law and Minority Welfare Minister NMD Farooq, along with District Collector G Raja Kumari, laid the foundation stone on Monday for a major Rs 3.50-crore development project at Pedda Cheruvu, near SBI Colony, under the AMRUT Tank scheme.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Farooq highlighted that the project aims to deliver state-of-the-art fitness and recreational amenities to the residents of Nandyal town.

He underscored the town’s steady expansion across civic, educational, and basic infrastructure sectors, noting the KC Canal’s crucial contribution to satisfying local irrigation and drinking water demands.

District Collector G Raja Kumari emphasized the critical importance of conserving Chinna Cheruvu and Pedda Cheruvu as essential water sources for upcoming generations.

She stated that the upgrading initiative includes constructing a 2.5-km walking track, an open gym, solar lighting, and CCTV coverage connected to the district control monitoring network. Additional proposals covering drinking water stations, public toilets, and a bridge connecting to NGOs Colony will be evaluated subject to funding allocations.

To boost environmental cover, the Collector announced an extensive plantation campaign alongside the local Walkers Association, utilizing native saplings supplied by the Forest Department.

She appealed to the public to safeguard government assets, eliminate waste dumping into water reservoirs, and participate enthusiastically in ongoing scientific sanitation initiatives to realize a “Swachh Nandyal.”

Municipal officials, engineers, members of the Walkers Association, local community leaders, and departmental authorities attended the ceremonial foundation event.
