Happy birthday Bobby Kolli: The director of commercial entertainers

Tollywood people and fans are celebrating the birthday of one of the most successful commercial filmmakers in Tollywood. Director KS Ravindra, popularly known as Bobby Kolli has been care-of address for consistent hits in the TFI.

Bobby Kolli was born and raised in Guntur, and he graduated from there. He did his B.Com and thereafter started his film career. He started working with a renowned writer, Chinna Krishna, and later was assisting legendary directors Dasaradh and Gopichand Malineni. He had a thorough understanding of commercial movies through his experience with these directors.

Bobby made his directorial debut with ‘Power’ in 2014 starring Ravi Teja. The movie was a blockbuster hit and fetched him the Best Debut Director award at Santosham Film Awards. His second film ‘Sardaar Gabbar Singh’ starring Pawan Kalyan was a disaster. Nevertheless, Bobby bounced back with another starring Jr NTR in a triple role, named ‘Jai Lava Kusa’.

The movie became a massive hit, grossing over ₹100 crore and marking Bobby Kolli as a competent director of heroes. He later directed ‘Venky Mama,’ a family entertainer starrng Venkatesh and Naga Chaitanya in prominent roles. It was a hit, despite receiving mixed reviews from movie critics.

The director later delivered another blockbuster ‘Waltair Veerayya’ starring the legendary Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja, reuniting the two after a long-time. ‘Waltair Veerayya’ was released during the Sankranti holidays in 2023 and became one of the highest-grossing films of the year. Bobby stunned the audience once again with his next big release, ‘Daaku Maharaaj,’ in 2025. ‘Daaku Maharaaj’ is one of the most ambitious commercial films made in Tollywood in recent years.

Bobby Kolli is currently working on the much-anticipated film ‘Mega158,’ starring Chiranjeevi, which is one of the most-awaited Telugu films this year. People have high hopes for the film, given the stellar performances of Chiranjeevi and Bobby Kolli’s direction since its release, Waltair Veerayya.

Away from the film industry, Bobby Kolli is a family man, happily married to Anusha Dronavalli, the older sister of Indian chess grandmaster Harika Dronavalli. The couple has a daughter, born in 2018.
