Padma Awards 2026: Mammootty, Rohit Sharma, Alka Yagnik and Vijay Amritraj Among 65 Honourees

Actor Mammootty, Tennis legend Vijay Amritraj, popular singer Alka Yagnik and Rohit Sharma were among 65 eminent personalities of Padma Awards 2026 winners. On Tuesday, these personalities are conferred with the coveted Padma awards by President Droupadi Murmu.

At the second civil investiture ritual held at Gantantra Mandap in Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President awarded the Padma Vibhushan on former Supreme Court judge KT Thomas for public affairs. Popular Malayalam journalist P Narayanan was also honoured with the Padma Vibhushan for his roles to education and literature.

Wife of JMM founder Shibu Soren, Rupi Soren, has received the Padma Bhushan on behalf of the late leader.

On Republic Day eve, the Government had declared 131 Padma awards for 2026. It includes five Padma Vibhushan awards. The president had conferred 65 Padma Awards, two Padma Vibhushan, six Padma Bhushan and 57 Padma Shri held on May 25.

The Padma Awards, the top civilian awards are divided in three different categories. The categories are Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The awards are given in different disciplines of activities like the arts, social work, business, public affairs, science, medicine, education, sports and civil service.

The Padma Awards were started in 1954 and are announced yearly on the occasion of Republic Day. The Padma Awards ceremony 2026 is expected to find individuals for work of distinction and outstanding achievement across a broad spectrum of activities.
