A Marathon on Telangana culture

Launched on April 1, ‘Praja Kala’—an ambitious initiative of the Department of Language and Culture, Government of Telangana—will conclude on July 9, marking a 101-day celebration of the state’s rich artistic heritage. Hosted at Palkuriki Sommana Moola on the Ravindra Bharati premises, the cultural marathon has brought together over 2,600 artistes from all 33 districts of Telangana.

According to Dr. Anugu Narasimha Reddy (IAS), Director, Department of Language and Culture, the initiative has showcased both renowned and lesser-known art forms, including Chakka Bhajana, Jada Koppulu, Qawwali, Telugu Kavi Sammelan, Telugu theatre, Perini Natyam, Kaddi Vadyam, Runjha, Gowda Puranam recitals, and Kinnera folk performances.

More than 1,000 artistes have made their debut on this prestigious platform, with participants travelling from districts such as Mahabubabad, Asifabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Nagarkurnool, Nirmal, and Jangaon.

The celebrations will culminate with the release of ‘Praja Kavita’, an anthology of Telangana poets, along with a commemorative book documenting the 101-day cultural journey.
