IIT Hyderabad launches ANUGYAN programme for nuclear technology training

The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH), in collaboration with Crimson Energy Experts Pvt. Ltd. (CEEPL), has launched ANUGYAN – Nuclear Technology Orientation Programme (NTOP), an industry-academia initiative focused on preparing engineers and industry professionals for India’s expanding civil nuclear energy sector.

The three-month, fully residential programme was inaugurated at the IIT Hyderabad campus in the presence of academic and industry representatives. It combines academic instruction with practical exposure from experienced nuclear industry professionals.

The curriculum covers areas including reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, radiation shielding, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), nuclear safety, quality assurance, engineering design, AERB regulatory compliance and simulator-based training.

The programme is intended for engineering graduates, working professionals, PSU executives, EPC contractors and industrial equipment manufacturers seeking specialised knowledge in nuclear engineering and the emerging nuclear supply chain. Participants completing the programme will receive joint certification from IIT Hyderabad and Crimson Energy Experts.

The initiative also builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed by IIT Hyderabad, Dassault Systèmes and Crimson Energy Experts during Bharat Innovate 2026 in Nice, France, to establish the Centre of Design Excellence in Nuclear Engineering (CODENE). The proposed centre will focus on nuclear engineering design, digital simulation and collaborative research.

Prof. B. S. Murty, Director, IIT Hyderabad, said developing skilled professionals would be important as India expands its civil nuclear programme and clean-energy capacity. He said the initiative combines academic learning with industrial expertise to prepare engineers for work involving safety, innovation and nuclear technology.

Cmde R. D. Mane (Retd.), President – Nuclear Division, Crimson Energy Experts, said the programme would cover regulatory compliance, quality assurance and specialised engineering design, with practical case studies led by professionals with experience in the nuclear sector. The first batch of ANUGYAN commenced on August 3, 2026, with participants from engineering institutions, public sector organisations and industries across India. The programme is aimed at developing specialised talent for research institutions, public sector enterprises, EPC companies, manufacturing industries and emerging nuclear technology organisations.
