Two arrested for allegedly serving beef as mutton at Bengaluru restaurant

Bengaluru police have arrested two restaurant owners for allegedly serving beef disguised as mutton at Kayaloram Restaurant near Budigere Cross. The establishment has been sealed, and an investigation is underway.
Bengaluru: Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly deceiving customers by serving beef dishes while claiming they were prepared using mutton at a restaurant on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
The accused, identified as Jiju and Sheembu, both natives of Kerala, were running a restaurant named "Kayaloram Restaurant" near Budigere for the past several months. The alleged fraud came to light after a customer who visited the restaurant became suspicious about the meat being served and lodged a complaint with Avalahalli police.
Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and conducted a raid on the establishment with the assistance of veterinary experts. During the inspection, meat samples and prepared food items were seized for examination.
According to investigators, the preliminary verification indicated that the meat served to customers as mutton was actually beef. Based on the findings, police arrested the restaurant operators and initiated further legal proceedings.
Officials suspect that the accused resorted to the practice in an attempt to increase profits by using cheaper meat while charging customers for mutton dishes. The investigation is now focused on identifying the source of the meat and determining whether similar practices had been followed over a longer period.
Police are also examining whether other employees of the restaurant were aware of the alleged fraud and whether any larger network was involved in supplying the meat. Authorities said further action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
The case has generated considerable attention, with officials reiterating the importance of strict monitoring of food establishments to ensure consumer safety and prevent fraudulent practices.
