Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on Monday, September 14, 2026. In Hyderabad, Telangana, the Chaturthi Tithi will begin at 7:06 AM on September 14 and end at 7:44 AM on September 15, according to the Panchang timings. The main Ganesh Puja and Sthapana are traditionally performed during the Madhyahna period. For Hyderabad, the Ganesh Puja Muhurat is from 10:58 AM to 1:25 PM on September 14.

Ganesh Sthapana 2026: Puja Vidhi

Ganesh Sthapana begins with preparing a clean and suitable place for the idol. Devotees may take a bath, wear clean clothes and clean the area where the puja will be performed. Fasting is also observed by some devotees, depending on family tradition.

Place a wooden chowki or platform in the puja area and cover it with a clean red or yellow cloth. A small swastika may be drawn on the cloth using kumkum or sandalwood, followed by a little akshat (uncooked rice). The Ganesh idol can then be placed on the prepared platform.

1. Sankalp

Before beginning the main puja, devotees traditionally take a sankalp, or a formal resolve to perform the worship. Water, akshat and a flower may be held in the right hand while stating the intention to worship Lord Ganesha.

2. Sthapana and Pran Pratishtha

The idol is placed carefully on the prepared platform. A Kalash filled with water may be kept beside it, along with mango leaves and a coconut. Depending on family or priestly tradition, the Kalash may also contain items such as a coin or supari.

Devotees then invoke Lord Ganesha and begin the worship with prayers and mantras such as “Om Gam Ganapataye Namah.”

3. Ganesh Puja

The idol is offered chandan, kumkum, akshat, flowers and durva grass. Durva is considered an important offering to Lord Ganesha, while red flowers, including hibiscus, are commonly offered where available.

A diya and incense can be lit during the puja. Devotees may also perform the traditional Shodashopachara Puja, in which different forms of worship and offerings are made.

4. Naivedya and Aarti

Modak is one of the most popular offerings associated with Ganesh Chaturthi. Devotees may also offer laddoos, fruits, coconut, jaggery, dry fruits or other preparations according to family tradition.

After the offerings, devotees can recite Ganesh prayers or the Ganesh Chaturthi Katha and perform the aarti. “Jai Ganesh Deva” is commonly sung during the worship, followed by distribution of the prasad.
