CPI targets BJP, launches nationwide ‘Poru Yatra’ against Centre’s policies
Hanumakonda: CPI State Assistant Secretary Takkallapalli Srinivas Rao on Thursday accused the BJP-led Central government of pursuing anti-people policies and called for a united public movement against what he described as the Centre’s anti-democratic and anti-federal approach. He was speaking after flagging off the Hanumakonda district leg of the CPI’s nationwide Poru Yatra at the Kazipet Water Tank.
The padayatra passed through Kazipet Market, Madikonda, Rampur, Peddapendyal, Dharmasagar, Saipet, Mupparam, Peechara and Velair, with party leaders and workers participating in large numbers. Addressing the gathering, Srinivas Rao alleged that the Centre was weakening the federal structure, neglecting the interests of farmers, workers, youth and students, and steadily privatising public sector institutions. He said recent farmers’ agitations and student protests reflected growing public dissatisfaction with the BJP government’s policies.
The CPI leader further alleged that the Centre had failed to fulfil key assurances given to Telangana under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, including the establishment of the Bayyaram Steel Plant and Mulugu Tribal University. He also criticised efforts to privatise SCCL and appealed to people from all sections to join the CPI’s nationwide campaign to safeguard public assets and protect the rights of the common people.
