249 Guest Lecturers Blacklisted Over Fake PhD Certificates, Department Orders Criminal Action

Bengaluru ; The state government on Thursday has ordered to file criminal cases against the guest lecturers who submitted fake phd certificates . The issue came to light after whistleblowers took their complaints to the Lokayukta. In response, the department rolled out a thorough review process: every document submitted by guest lecturers had to be checked with the issuing universities or authorities. Principals got clear instructions—verify everything, including postgraduate marks cards, PhD and MPhil certificates, NET, SLET, K-SET qualifications, disability documents, and reservation certificates. If they found anything off, the lecturers were to be removed on the spot and the case bumped up the chain. Lecturers who disagreed could appeal, and each of those objections went before a review committee for a second look.

According to officials out of the 249 blacklisted lecturers, the Kalaburagi region stood out with a whopping 153 cases. The rest shook out like this: Dharwad had 31, Bengaluru 24, Mysuru 22, Shivamogga 17, and Mangaluru brought up the rear with 2. Some colleges saw multiple offenders—Shahpur Government Degree College in Yadgir tallied 20, Government First Grade College in Bidar had 19, Government Women’s College in Kalaburagi had 13, and Government Women’s College in Koppal found 7.

The department isn’t letting this slide. They’ve told every institution to file immediate police complaints against those involved. Plus, college heads need to turn in detailed reports (including copies of registered FIRs) to the Commissioner’s office within a week.

Officials say this isn’t just about punishment. They want to send a clear message to education sector that recruitment should be transparent and based on real merit.
