CPI leaders staging a dharna at the Collectorate in Guntur on Monday
Guntur: CPI leaders protested demanding that two cents of house site be allotted to every eligible homeless poor person in Guntur city and Rs 5 lakh financial assistance be given for construction of the houses. The CPI Guntur city committee organised a Maha Dharna at the Collectorate here on Monday.
Addressing the gathering, the CPI Guntur City Secretary Akiti Arun Kumar demanded that TIDCO houses be immediately handed over to eligible beneficiaries. He urged the government to issue house-site pattas to eligible people who have been residing for decades on government land and in residential areas.
CPI Guntur district secretary Kota Maladri said the CPI had been waging continuous struggles for several years for house sites for the poor. He recalled that the coalition government had promised to provide two cents of house site in urban areas and three cents in rural areas and had also announced the promise on several occasions. CPI Guntur district assistant secretary Meda Hanumantharao, party city committee member Nuthalapati Chinna were among those who participated.
