Guntur: CPI State secretariat member Jangala Ajay Kumar said the CPI state leadership had decided to contest the upcoming local body elections by entering into seat adjustments with non-NDA parties in areas where the CPI has a strong presence.

Addressing the media here on Sunday, he alleged that 13 crore votes of people opposed to the NDA had been deleted under the guise of the SIR process. He said it is not correct.

He claimed that 30 lakh votes had been deleted in AP and notices were being issued seeking explanations as to why another 32 lakh votes should not be deleted.

He said the nationwide agitation was continuing with demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner and complete withdrawal of the SIR process.

He recalled that the government had promised during the elections to provide Rs 1,500 per month to women and Rs 3,000 per month as unemployment assistance to unemployed youth, but these promises had not been implemented so far. He said the CPI had called for a Chalo Assembly programme on October 26 to press for these demands.
