Around 35% names likely to be deleted in TG

Hyderabad: Out of 3,38,29,108 voters in Telangana, there is a likelihood of around 35 per cent names getting deleted from the voter’s list. This is largely due to the anomalies found during mapping that was undertaken by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

As per the latest data from poll body, almost 70 per cent of mapping was done by its representatives in the state, which translates to 2,36,54,232 voters, while 1,0174,786 are unmapped. Almost 1,01,48,705 voters are likely to get notices seeking clarification.

Qutbullapur Assembly constituency tops the list of anomalies with 77.82 per cent, followed by LB Nagar and Serilingampally constituencies, while it is around 62 per cent in Rangareddy district.

In Hyderabad district, Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency has the highest number of anomalies with 52.2 per cent, while the lowest is Musheerabad with 32 per cent anomalies.

Meanwhile, according to officials, Sathupally Assembly constituency had the least anomalies with only over 16 per cent, across Telangana.

As per the official figures there are 47.35 lakh voters in Hyderabad district, 37 lakh in Rangareddy and 30 lakh in Medchal Malkajgiri district.

Sources attributed to the large number of anomalies in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts to the migrating populations. Many voters in these constituencies are natives of Andhra Pradesh and from the state capital’s adjoining districts. Generally, the voters get registered by filling Form 6 and for deletion or making changes the voters should fill Form 8, which is done after inquiry. Many voters hence will have two votes, one in the city and one in their old address.

Now, the voters who have shifted from one location to another will have to get in touch with the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to map their votes after going to their earlier location. The BLOs will not check for the new address and just mention it as ‘shifted’ leading to deletion of votes.
