C-DOT and IIT Hyderabad Establish Advanced Telecom Research Centre for 6G, AI, and Quantum Technologies

A new centre of distinction is primarily focused on the next-generation communication technologies. It has been established at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad in partnership with the Centre for Development of Telematics, the development arm of the Union Telecommunications Department, and telecom research.

The collaboration is planned to speed up research, innovation and skill development in advanced communication technologies. It includes 5G Advanced and 6G networks, quantum communications, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence-driven telecom applications. C-DoT has recognized like facilities at IIT Kanpur, IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Roorkee.

According to the official statement, the centre will function as a hub for research and prototype development in next-generation technologies. It includes large-scale MIMO systems and combined sensing and communication technologies.

The primary focus will be on AI-powered communication networks and devices, as well as quantum and post-quantum communication systems. C-DOT and IIT Hyderabad already have a present collaboration through WISIG, an IIT Hyderabad-incubated start-up working on disaggregated 5G Open Radio Access Network solutions.

C-DOT Chief Executive Officer Rajkumar Upadhyay shared that the centre would help to create a strong innovation pipeline for future communication technologies. It is through the combination of the combining academic research with operational capabilities.

Director Prof. B.S. Murty, IIT Hyderabad, said the institute’s proficiency in communication engineering, telecom innovation and wireless systems would balance C-DOT’s efforts to develop secure and local telecom solutions.

He added that the collaboration would even provide wonderful opportunities for students, researchers and industry partners. It is about to join developed cutting-edge technologies and boost India's management in next-generation telecommunications.
