Hyderabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy sparked intense political discussion on August 2 after making a statement that observers say echoes a failed strategy once adopted by veteran Congress leader K Jana Reddy.

Suggesting that voters should decide his political future based on his developmental record rather than election campaigning, political analysts are drawing direct parallels with K Jana Reddy’s 1994 electoral experiment. Addressing a gathering in his Nalgonda Assembly constituency, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy stated that he would contest the next Assembly elections only if the people assured him of a record majority. He emphasised that if such explicit confidence was not forthcoming, he would voluntarily withdraw from the electoral race.

The Minister appealed to voters to judge his candidatures based on the extensive development and welfare initiatives undertaken throughout his tenure rather than relying on routine election campaigning. He remarked that even if he did not actively campaign on the ground, citizens should vote after assessing his performance and overall contributions to the constituency.
