Hyderabad: Government Whip Ramachandra Naik said on Saturday that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s family had no connection with Medicover Hospital and alleged that the BRS was making such allegations only to divert attention from its own asset dealings.

While speaking to the media at CLP media hall, Naik said Medicover Hospital had been in existence even before the Congress government was formed and had subsequently sold its stake to a foreign entity. It was common for private hospitals to sell stakes to raise funds for expansion, he said.

He alleged that the people of Telangana did not believe the allegations being leveled by the BRS and accused the KCR family of presenting falsehoods as facts. He challenged the Kalvakuntla family to publicly declare whether it was ready for an inquiry into its assets. Naik alleged that members of the KCR family held stakes in several real estate companies and questioned whether the 14-year-long Telangana movement had been fought for the sake of accumulating personal wealth.

“People from all walks of life participated in the Telangana movement and employees went on strike. Did Srikanthachary and Constable Kishtaiah sacrifice their lives so that you could amass wealth,” he asked.

He also questioned whether leaders such as Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and DSP Nalini had resigned from their posts for the same purpose. He sought an explanation from the BRS over how Rs 1,200 crore was accumulated in its account and alleged that the decision to rename the TRS as the BRS was aimed at protecting the family’s assets.

He alleged that the KCR family had accumulated enough wealth to live in luxury for the next ten generations.

Defending the Congress government, Naik said it was implementing several welfare and development programmes without burdening the people with additional taxes. Naik alleged that the BRS was resorting to “crude and uncivilised” criticism of the Chief Minister because it was unable to digest the government’s initiatives. The party was spreading what he termed false propaganda merely to remain politically relevant, he said.

He further alleged that Telangana would have turned into “another Sri Lanka” had KCR returned to power. “If KCR were the Chief Minister, they would have even imposed a tax on hair,” he remarked.

Naik challenged BRS leaders KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao to agree to a comprehensive inquiry into their assets and provide answers. He also demanded that the KCR family seek the people’s forgiveness for what he described as the “plunder” of Telangana. He said the Chief Minister was acting in accordance with the law and noted that investigations were underway into the Formula E case, Kaleshwaram project and other alleged irregularities. Those found guilty would face punishment under law and in the “people’s court”, he said.
