Bhadradri Temple Expansion: Demolition works gather pace ahead of Mukkoti

As part of the expansion of the Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy Temple in Bhadrachalam, authorities have now stepped up the process of removing old structures at the temple. With the Mukkoti celebrations approaching, authorities have reportedly instructed the contractor to complete the removal of existing structures at the earliest and take up the construction works with speed without compromising on quality.

The pace of demolition activities has increased following a recent field-level inspection by Endowments Department Director M Hanumantha Rao, who reviewed the progress of the works with officials and the contractor.

Notably, the demolition of the existing Ramanuja Kootam, located beside the Bhadru’s shrine and used for preparing prasadam for the presiding deity, has commenced.

As an idol of the Goddess was located at the prasadam preparation area, the temple’s Vedic staff performed the traditional Kalavahana ritual on Sunday.

Following the ritual, prasadam preparation is scheduled to begin from Monday at a temporary Ramanuja Kootam established at the location of the Ramakoti pillars.

Final arrangements for the temporary facility have reportedly been completed. Prasadam offerings will be prepared there after the Suprabhatam and during the afternoon and night and offered to the deity.

The process of removing the Bhadru’s shrine, constructed nearly 47 years ago during the tenure of M Narasimha Rao as the temple’s Executive Officer, also commenced on Sunday.

The shrine is traditionally associated with the head of Bhadra Maharshi, atop which the sacred footprints of Lord Rama are believed to be present.

The presiding deities are located at the symbolic heart of Bhadra Maharshi.

The authorities have also initiated steps to remove the yagasala located behind the Bhadru’s shrine. Preparations have also begun to remove the Vista Complex located in front of the western steps of the temple.

With the temple expansion works now gathering momentum, shopkeepers have reportedly been verbally informed that the complex would be removed. Formal notices are likely to be issued shortly, according to temple sources.

The move is reportedly in line with instructions to expedite the removal of the Vista Complex as part of the ongoing temple development works.
