APPCB chief inspects Jonnagiri gold mining project
Kurnool: Dr P Krishnaiah, Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), inspected the gold mining and ore processing operations of Geomysore Services (India) Pvt. Ltd. at Jonnagiri in Tuggali mandal on Monday.
Accompanied by APPCB officials, he reviewed environmental management measures across the 1,477.24-acre lease area, which includes a 0.40 MTPA mining capacity and a 0.30 MTPA processing plant.
During the visit, industry representatives explained the gold extraction process, which yields approximately 1.30 grams of gold per tonne of ore.
Dr Krishnaiah evaluated the plant’s robust pollution control systems, including four detoxification tanks, filter press technology, an ETP for workshop effluent, and an STP for domestic sewage.
He noted that real-time air monitoring stations and dust suppression mechanisms met prescribed standards without exceedances.
Commending the development of a 30-acre greenbelt encompassing 33,372 plants, Dr Krishnaiah emphasized that mining must be conducted responsibly.
“Strict compliance with Environmental Clearance conditions, water conservation, and scientific tailings management must remain integral to operations,” he stated, while participating in an on-site plantation programme.
Officials were directed to maintain regular field-level monitoring.
