Asifabad: Several Asifabad municipal councillors have strongly rejected allegations made by DCC president AthramSuguna against former DCC president K. Viswa Prasad Rao, calling them baseless and damaging to the Congress party’s image.

The councillors said Viswa Prasad Rao worked extensively for the party’s victory in the municipal elections and played a key role in securing the support of four independent councillors during the chairperson election. They questioned why he would mobilise independents for Congress if he intended to prevent a minority community member from becoming chairperson.

They also sought clarity over allegations that

Rs 1.5 crore was spent but the chairperson post was lost. The councillors demanded details of who provided and received the money, and when and where it was allegedly spent.

They urged party leaders to avoid unsubstantiated accusations and make facts public. They also called for a legally compliant review of relevant communications to establish who supported or obstructed Congress during the election.

Councillors RaparthiKarthik, KasturiPushpalatha, HanumanlaSwapna Rani, KonduBharathi, AtramKrishnamma and Lunar Tarabai appealed to Congress leaders and workers to remain united and strengthen the party.
