Nalgonda: Minister for Roads, Buildings, and Cinematography Komatireddy Venkat Reddy called upon everyone to follow in the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi. On Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, Reddy paid tributes to the former by garlanding the statue of ‘Bapuji’ at Ramagiri here on Friday.
Speaking to the media, the Minister noted that Gandhi played a pivotal role in securing the nation’s independence through peaceful means. He highlighted that, even before the advent of Swaraj (self-rule), Gandhi fought against caste discrimination and for religious harmony, advocating respect for all faiths.
He mentioned that Bapuji believed national development was possible only through Gram Swaraj (village self-governance). “In line with these ideals, the state government has resolved to install a statue of Mahatma Gandhi as part of the ‘Gandhi Sarovar’ project near the Musi River,” said the minister.
“The late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, following in Mahatma Gandhi’s footsteps, had facilitated the direct transfer of Gram Panchayat funds into the accounts of
Sarpanches,” said Komatireddy. District Collector B Chandrasekhar also spoke, describing Mahatma Gandhi as a leader who fought against caste and racial discrimination in South Africa and participated in the freedom movement. “His ideals serve as a model for the current generation and contribute to achieving equality and gender parity in the construction of a new society,” said the collector.
