Rajamahendravaram police commissionerate approved
Rajamahendravaram: The state government has accorded permission for the establishment of the Rajamahendravaram police commissionerate, headed by a commissioner of police in the rank of IGP/DIGP, with executive magistrate powers under Section 14(6) of the BNSS, 2023. The government issued GO Ms No 198 of the home (Services-III) department on Monday.
The commissionerate will have its headquarters at Rajamahendravaram and comprise three territorial zones covering the existing East Godavari Revenue District and East Godavari (Rajamahendravaram) police district, along with the proposed territorial reorganisation.
According to the order, the move was necessitated by the rapid urbanisation of Rajamahendravaram and its growth as an administrative, commercial, educational and transportation hub of the Godavari region.
The government also noted the increasing movement of floating population and growing policing requirements.
The existing DIG technical services post will be shifted and redesignated as commissioner of police. The existing SP post will be redesignated as DCP L&O-I, while other posts will be shifted or redesignated as DCP L&O-II, DCP coordination and DCP L&O-III. Four existing additional SP posts will be redesignated as additional DCPs for administration, crimes, traffic and CSW (AR), while five DSP posts will be redesignated as ACPs for Central, South, North, East and Kovvuru zones.
No new posts will be created for the Commissionerate and the existing sanctioned cadre strength will be utilised, the order said.
