Rajamahendravaram: Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at Adikavi Nannaya University (AKNU) here on Friday. Vice-Chancellor Prof S Prasanna Sree paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi by garlanding his portrait. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Prasanna Sree said the principles of truth, non-violence and peace advocated by Mahatma Gandhi continue to be relevant to society.

She called upon the youth to follow Gandhiji’s ideals in their daily lives and contribute to social development. She stressed the need for everyone to take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene. She said collective efforts were necessary to build the clean, peaceful and egalitarian society envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi.

The Vice-Chancellor also advised students to learn about Gandhiji’s life and principles and put them into practice. University officials D Jyothirmayi, D Kalyani, B Kejiaraini, K Sreeramesh and M Gopalakrishna, along with teaching and non-teaching staff and students, participated in the programme and paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.
