AP Government bets big on Kosala Nagaram to attract global investments

The State government is betting on a new industrial hub in Vijayapuram mandal of Chittoor district to replicate the success of Sri City, with Kosala Nagaram Industrial Park being planned as a major investment and manufacturing destination near Tamil Nadu border. The government sees the project as a key step in expanding industrial growth in the State by attracting large investments, creating employment and leveraging the region’s strategic location close to Tamil Nadu. Sri City, located in Satyavedu constituency, is home to more than 260 companies from 35 countries and has generated employment for over 70,000 people, with women accounting for more than half of the workforce. Officials believe Kosala Nagaram has similar potential because of its proximity to Tamil Nadu and its connectivity to major transport networks. Automobile manufacturers from Ambattur in Tamil Nadu have already expressed interest in setting up units at the park. Some investors are also keen to establish textile and food processing industries.

Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) currently owns 2,042.13 acres at Kosala Nagaram. However, the land is uneven and requires extensive levelling before industries can begin operations. Since developing such a large area will require significant investment, the government is considering involving private companies in the development of the industrial park.

The proposed park has strong logistical advantages. It is located close to Chittoor Thatchur National Highway and has access to Krishnapatnam and Kattupalli ports. Chennai and Tirupati airports are also within easy reach, while the surrounding region offers an adequate pool of skilled manpower.

Water remains the only major infrastructure challenge. The government has given in principle approval for the construction of a balancing reservoir to meet the park’s future water requirements. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had earlier directed officials to supply water to the reservoir from Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi project. Since the GNSS project is expected to be completed by December 2028, officials believe water requirement of the industrial park will be permanently addressed by then. Temporary arrangements are being planned until the project is completed.

Anticipating growing demand from investors, the Chief Minister has also directed APIIC to acquire around 5,000 acres for future industrial expansion and resolve issues related to adjoining forest land if required.

Of the existing 2,042 acres, the government has decided to earmark 500 acres for a private industrial park, while around 200 acres have already been allotted to various industries. Officials believe these measures will accelerate the development of Kosala Nagaram into the State’s next major investment and

manufacturing hub.
