A training programme for mango farmers in Tirupati on Monday
Tirupati: Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS) and RASS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) organised a training-cum-input supply programme for mango farmers on Monday under Unnathi Mango Project, a collaborative initiative supported by Coca Cola India Foundation, New Delhi.
The event aimed to promote low-cost, scientific crop management practices that can help farmers reduce production costs, improve fruit quality and access better markets, including export opportunities.
About 100 mango farmers from Puthalapattu, Irala, Pulicherla, Pakala, Puttur, Thavanampalle and Ramachandrapuram mandals participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Senior Scientist and Head of RASS–KVK Dr S Sreenivasulu said implementing critical management practices at the right time ensures good harvests and export-quality fruit. He emphasised that substituting chemical fertilisers with biofertilisers and micronutrient mixtures prolongs orchard life and enables farmers to fetch remunerative prices.
Horticulture Scientist PS Sudhakar advised spraying 10 gm urea and 5 gm micronutrient mixture per litre of water in pruned orchards to encourage new flush and early flowering. He also recommended green manure crops and an NPK biofertilizer consortium for high yields at low cost.
Extension scientist Ramu Kumar explained KVK’s ongoing initiatives to support farmers through training and demonstrations.
