Guntur Channel: Rs 10 cr compensation credited to farmers’ accounts

The Andhra Pradesh government releases ₹10 crore as the 3rd compensation instalment for farmers affected by the Guntur Channel extension project.
Guntur: State government has released the third instalment of compensation for farmers who gave their lands for the Guntur Channel extension project. As part of the latest release, Rs 10 crore has been credited to the bank accounts of 37 farmers from GG Palem and Ravipadu villages, following the initiative taken by the Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar on Monday.
Earlier, the government had released Rs 10.54 crore in the first instalment and Rs 17.58 crore in the second instalment, taking the total compensation disbursed to Rs 28.12 crore. The total compensation released so far has reached Rs 38.12 crore.
The total compensation payable for land acquired for the Guntur Channel extension project is Rs 70.17 crore. With Rs 38.12 crore already disbursed, nearly 54 per cent of the total compensation has been paid. The remaining Rs 32.05 crore will also be released at the earliest to ensure that all eligible farmers receive their dues.
Pemmasani stated that the completion of the Guntur Channel extension project will significantly improve irrigation facilities in the region and provide long-term benefits to the farming community.
