Workshop on engineering curriculum begins

Guntur: The chairman of Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) Prof K Madhu Murthy stressed the need for a dynamic engineering curriculum that continuously adapts to emerging technologies, industry requirements and societal needs.

The APSCHE in collaboration with Acharya Nagarjuna University, inaugurated a five-day workshop titled “Preparing Future-Ready Engineers: A Relook at the Curriculum” under RUSA 2.0 held on Monday at Acharya Nagarjuna University. The workshop, being held from August 3 to 7, brings together academicians, university administrators and industry representatives to redesign engineering education in Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking on this occasion, he said the initiative aligns with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s vision of transforming higher education through Artificial Intelligence and introducing new-age disciplines such as Space, Defence, Bioengineering and Physical Artificial Intelligence. He emphasised that AI should be integrated into curriculum design, teaching, learning and assessment to prepare students for future challenges.

Retired IAS officer Dr K Lakshmi Narayana highlighted the importance of combining academic content with real-world context, urging universities to produce graduates capable of solving societal and technological problems. Academic experts Prof Ghanta Subba Rao and Prof N Siva Prasad underscored the need to develop skilled human resources and integrate AI across all engineering disciplines.

Acharya Nagarjuna University Vice-Chancellor Prof K Gangadhar called for world-class curricula developed through close academia-industry collaboration. Industry leader Dasari Ramakrishna of Efftronics Systems and JNTU Kakinada Vice-Chancellor Prof CSRK Prasad stressed aligning engineering education with industry expectations and emerging technologies. The workshop’s recommendations are expected to play a key role in modernising engineering curricula across AP.
