Vizianagaram: Clad in magenta pink-green tribal attire, more than 13,000 girls swirled around, thumping their feet in unison to the pulsating beats of Dhimsa. The mammoth presentation of the tribal dance, one of the biggest attractions at the grand inaugural ceremony of Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, gained an entry into Guinness World Records for the largest participation.

Witnessed by over 1 lakh people who turned up at the venue from various parts of North Andhra, the stage turned out to be quite vibrant as North Andhra’s culture and tradition came to the fore.

The troupes from Guntur, Chittoor, Amalapuram, Srikakulam, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam performed folk dances such as ‘Tappetagullu’, ‘Garagallu’ along with the presentation of ‘dappu’.

Tribal women from various parts of Araku Valley, Paderu, Rampachodavaram, Sitampeta and Parvathipuram Manyam rehearsed for weeks to make the Dhimsa dance exceptionally impressive.

In addition to Dhimsa, Classical dancers performed Kuchipudi as part of the celebrations.

Saffron, yellow and white party flags of BJP, TDP and Jana Sena fluttered all along the route to Bhogapuram.

More than 2,000 buses arrived at the venue from 6 am onwards, mobilising people from neighbouring districts.
