National legal workshop held on IPR and Arbitration Law

Visakhapatnam: GITAM School of Law organised a legal training workshop on Intellectual Property Law and Arbitration Law here on Monday. The event was presided over by Moumita Sen Chakraborty, Director of the School of Law, who highlighted the institution’s ongoing commitment to bridging the gap between classroom legal education and contemporary professional practice.

Emphasising the strategic role of legal frameworks, Law School Dean Rajendra Prasad stressed the vital importance of intellectual property rights in today’s innovation-driven world. The workshop brought together legal academicians, industry experts and practitioners to deliver actionable, practical insights into modern intellectual property frameworks and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

Keynote speakers at the inaugural session included IIT Kharagpur M. Padmavathi, alongside prominent legal experts Vishwambher Bareja, Garima Joshi, Navdeep Suhag, Subham Budhiraja, and Sakshi Nigam. Addressing the gathering, the experts briefed participants on the historical and present-day application of the Indian Patents Act, 1970, while stressing the urgent need to safeguard intellectual property rights for new technological advancements and research.

The speakers observed that in today’s knowledge-driven economy, the intrinsic and monetary value of a well-secured patent far exceeds that of traditional real property.

Extending the scope of the training, the experts also provided comprehensive briefings on the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, highlighting key legislative amendments and modern dispute resolution practices.

The workshop featured interactive technical sessions, claim drafting exercises, and practical arbitration modules designed to prepare legal scholars and future lawyers for complex legal challenges in intellectual property and corporate dispute resolution.
