Visakhapatnam: It is going to be a ‘festival of sorts’ as Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram is bracing for the grand inauguration.

Alongside VVIPs, union and state ministers and public representatives, scores of people from across North Andhra districts will witness the launch ceremony.

On August 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the greenfield International Airport christened after the freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu invited the Prime Minister to grace the occasion and inaugurate the airport that is poised to serve as a major economic growth engine for North Andhra region.

In a move to mark the event as the most memorable launch in the chapters of Andhra Pradesh, plans are on to mobilise people from various parts of North Andhra to the venue at Bhogapuram.

Special focus was paid on deploying a fleet of buses for the purpose.

APSRTC arranged to ferry people from various destinations to Bhogapuram by operating over 2,000 buses from Zone-I.

As part of special arrangements made, a coordinator has been assigned for every five buses.

“This is to ensure the buses ferry people from point to point in a hassle-free manner. Depot managers, mechanical personnel and drivers with clean records have been considered to operate the buses and monitor the entire transport exercise from close quarters during the inaugural of the new airport,” informed B. Appalanaidu, APSRTC Visakhapatnam Regional Manager.

Visiting Bhogapuram, officials concerned examined the parking spaces at the new airport along with other arrangements made for the ensuing inauguration.
