  • Says breastfeeding should begin within one hour of childbirth and continue exclusively for six months
  • Urges mothers to continue breastfeeding with complementary foods for at least one year or beyond
  • Directs Anganwadi, ASHA and health workers to conduct awareness drives across villages during World Breastfeeding Week

Warangal: State Minister for Panchayat Raj, Rural Development, Rural Water Supply, Women and Child Welfare, Danasari Anasuya Seethakka, emphasised that breastfeeding is the foundation for a healthy future and urged mothers to adopt proper breastfeeding practices during World Breastfeeding Week, being observed from August 1 to 7.

The Minister said every mother should begin breastfeeding within one hour of childbirth, describing breast milk as the safest, cleanest and most nutritious food for infants. She advised mothers to exclusively abreastfeed babies for the first six months and continue breastfeeding along with complementary foods for at least one year or longer to ensure healthy growth and immunity.

Seethakka also stressed that a mother’s nutrition directly affects the quality of breast milk and contributes to the child’s overall development. She directed Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and health officials to organise awareness programmes across villages and encourage mothers to follow recommended breastfeeding practices. Extending her greetings to mothers, she appealed to the public to actively support and participate in the week-long campaign.
