Air India Phuket-Delhi Flight Hit By Severe Turbulence

Severe turbulence affected an Air India flight AI2793 on Tuesday as it flew between Phuket and Delhi. The plane dropped some 300 feet causing huge panic and tensions .

According to sources, the incident injured 12 people including crew and the passengers on board. Additionally, the aircraft safely landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Air India said in the statement that severe turbulence was experienced during the cruising phase on flight AI2793. The airline's rapid descent resulted in a scene of panic within the passenger compartment, as some of the passengers and crew suffered minor injuries. Later, the medical teams were deployed immediately after the flight landed and the wounded persons were provided with the prompt medical support.

The statement from Fortis hospital at Vasant Kunj stated, "As per the latest update, 7 passengers have arrived at Fortis Flt. Lt. Rajan Dhall Hospital and have been admitted to the Emergency Department (ER). All patients were immediately assessed upon arrival, and treatment was initiated without delay. Following the initial stabilization of the patients, a Code Yellow was activated to ensure a coordinated hospital response and optimal deployment of resources. After stabilization, the patients were shifted for the necessary radiological investigations (CT/MRI/X-rays, as clinically indicated) and are now being transferred to their respective inpatient rooms for continued observation and further management,"

The airline noted that Air India's team is supporting them and working with authorities, as it investigates the incident. Air India has added that safety of air passengers continues to be their utmost concern. The team is present at the hospital and is working closely with the clinical and administrative teams to assist patient care, documentation, logistics, and communication with the passengers’ families.

The plane was reported to have been transporting 134 passengers. The incident has again raised an alert in the minds of people about unexpected turbulence in flights. Aviation experts recommend that passengers always wear their seat belts because even during regular cruising flights, there is a possibility of severe turbulence.
