Congress MP Manickam Tagore stated all the Congress members from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will vote against the Delimitation Bill as it discriminates against southern states.

All Congress MPs from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will vote against the proposed Delimitation Bill as Congress is still opposed to the bill, Congress MP Manickam Tagore has said here Saturday.

In response, Tagore told ANI that the Congress will oppose the Bill in Parliament and claimed that the proposed delimitation exercise would hurt the representation of the southern states. He said that the party will remain united against the bill.

While speaking to ANI, Tagore said, "Delimitation is against the voices of Tamil Nadu people. I am one of those MPs who can say that I will vote against delimitation.10 Congress MPs from the Lok Sabha will vote against it, including Puducherry."

His remarks took place in the wake of a growing political controversy related to the delimitation exercise, which several leaders of the southern states have raised concerns about as they believe any re-adjustment of Lok Sabha seats based on the latest population figures could lead to their marginalisation.

The Centre has argued that the delimitation exercise is meant to guarantee representation in accordance with the constitutional provisions and Opposition parties have demanded safeguards for the states which have been able to manage their population growth.

The draft Bill is likely to be hotly debated in Parliament, with political parties debating the effect that the bill will have on the Federal structure and the representation of various states.
