Kanwariya gives birth to twins while returning from Haridwar

Muzaffarnagar: A Delhi-based woman kanwariya returning from Haridwar after taking the sacred water of Ganga river gave birth to twin sons on Monday in Muzaffarnagar, police said. The police, in a statement, said the woman, identified as Neha, suddenly experienced labour pain during Kanwar Yatra, following which personnel were informed and got her admitted to a nearby district hospital.

“Upon receiving information, a Muzaffarnagar police team led by Superintendent of Police (city) Amrit Jain and Assistant Superintendent of Police Siddharth K Mishra promptly got the pregnant Kanwariya admitted to the district hospital,” it said.

“A team of doctors at the district hospital provided prompt and appropriate medical care, enabling Neha to safely give birth to twins. Both the mother and the newborns are currently under medical supervision,” it added. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Muzaffarnagar Sanjai Kumar visited the district hospital to enquire about the well-being of the mother and the newborns, named Kartik and Gangesh, the statement said. Assistant Superintendent of Police Siddharth K Mishra told PTI that the woman (in her late 30s) and the children are safe.

“The Muzaffarnagar Police remains constantly committed to ensuring the safety, convenience, and provision of all possible assistance to devotees during the Shravan month Kanwar Yatra, ensuring that every devotee can complete their pilgrimage safely and securely,” the statement said. Chief Medical Superintendent of the Woman Hospital, Dr Murli Bhaskar told PTI, “Neha gave birth to her first son at 11.19 am on Monday, while the second son was born two minutes later at 11.21 am.”

“Both babies were delivered via normal delivery but experienced breathing difficulties due to being born prematurely. Doctors immediately admitted both newborns to the SNCU and initiated treatment. Under the supervision of specialist doctors, the condition of both babies is now reported to be normal. The mother, Neha, is also in stable health,” the doctor said.
