Lovlina Borgohain Points Out Northeast Being Omitted From Map Of India At Glasgow Resturant

After an incredible Commonwealth Games campaign, India's record-breaking boxing team had assembled to celebrate in Glasgow and Olympic champion Lovlina Borgohain spoke up after seeing an incorrect map of India at the restaurant.

Olympic medal winner Lovlina Borgohain noted that a map of India which was printed on the restaurant's napkins had left out the Northeast and so a celebratory dinner for India's record-breaking boxing team at the Commonwealth Games 2026 went unexpectedly out of the way. The boxer said it was hurtful, and that the restaurant need to ensure an accurate representation of all parts of the country.

Lovlina, who is from Assam, told IANS that she was dismayed to discover the incorrect map on the napkins and outside the restaurant following the team's visit to Mister Singh's India - The Home of Curry in Glasgow.

"Please don't take this the wrong way. I felt a little hurt by this. In the map of India, our North East is missing. Yes, even outside, the map that's displayed has cut off the North East. As someone from the North East, that really hurts us. That's all I wanted to say. Please keep this in mind next time. Thank you so much," she said.

Boxing Federation of India (BFI) president Ajay Singh expressed her concerns saying that Jammu and Kashmir was also not correctly represented on the map. Singh urged the restaurant to get rid of the wrong design and put one showing the actual border of India.

The restaurant, which has hosted many a dignitary and sports team over the years and is a popular Indian restaurant in Glasgow, has not issued an official comment on the matter.

The controversy came on the heels of India's best-ever performance in the Commonwealth Games in boxing, which was capped at 10 gold medals.The controversy took place just hours after Indian had won the best-ever boxing campaign at the Commonwealth Games, with 10 gold medals to their credit.
