Fire at oil shop near Sivakasi; 2 tonnes of oil gutted
Virudhunagar (TN): A massive fire broke out at an oil shop in Thiruthangal near Sivakasi early on Monday, destroying approximately two tonnes of oil, police said.
According to officials, the shop, owned by a person named Navamani, is located on the road leading to the Thevar statue in Thiruthangal. The owner had closed the shop as usual the previous night before the blaze erupted suddenly in the early hours of the morning. As the flames spread rapidly, personnel from the Sivakasi Fire and Rescue Services were alerted. Firefighters battled the blaze for a prolonged period before bringing it under control, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent commercial establishments. While the shop suffered extensive damage with around two tonnes of oil completely burnt, no casualties were reported. Police suspect that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the fire. Further investigation is underway.
