Assembly Ethics panel to probe Kaushik Reddy row

Hyderabad: The Telangana Assembly Ethics Committee is likely to issue a notice to Huzurabad BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy before the commencement of the monsoon session of the Assembly, according to official sources. The investigative process is expected to begin immediately after the newly constituted Ethics Committee holds its first formal meeting. The panel will examine the specific case referred to it by Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasada Kumar. It may be recalled that the Speaker had referred the matter relating to Kaushik Reddy to the committee on March 29 2026. However, at that time, the Assembly Ethics Committee had not yet been formally constituted.

The Assembly authorities recently announced the formation of the legislative committees. The panel is headed by Revuri Prakash Reddy as chairman and includes members Vedma Bhojju, Gavinolla Madhusudhan Reddy, Prashanth Reddy Vemula, T Padma Rao, Paidi Rakesh Reddy and Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao. The case pertains to allegations that Kaushik Reddy made highly inappropriate gestures towards Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari during Assembly proceedings. The controversial incident had triggered heated exchanges between the ruling Congress and opposition BRS members.

Congress members objected strongly to the alleged gestures, with Adluri Lakshman Kumar, Vakiti Srihari and others alleging that Kaushik Reddy had made an objectionable gesture resembling the use of an AK-47 towards Kadiyam Srihari. They urged the Speaker to initiate strict disciplinary action against the BRS legislator.

Ruling party member Balu Naik also criticised the conduct of Kaushik Reddy, alleging that it reflected a feudal mentality. The Ethics Committee is expected to seek a formal explanation from Kaushik Reddy before proceeding further in the matter.
