BRS Claims Credit for Restart of Kaleshwaram Pump Houses, Alleges Congress Bid to Undermine Project

Khammam : Former Telangana minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar on Wednesday alleged that the Congress government had failed in its attempts to undermine the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and claimed that sustained protests by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) had compelled the government to restart operations at the Nandi Medaram and Gayatri pump houses.

In a a statement, Ajay Kumar said the revival of the two pump houses was the outcome of the “relentless struggle” led by senior BRS leaders K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao, coupled with continuous public pressure mounted by the party.

He accused the Congress government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, of pursuing what he described as a politically motivated campaign against the Kaleshwaram project out of “vendetta” against former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). According to the BRS leader, the government’s alleged attempts to render the project ineffective had ultimately failed.

Describing Kaleshwaram as the “lifeline of Telangana’s water security,” Ajay Kumar said the irrigation project was conceived with a long-term vision by KCR to meet the state’s future irrigation and drinking water requirements. He asserted that the project had played a crucial role in safeguarding agriculture and ensuring water availability during periods of drought and deficient rainfall.

The former minister urged the state government to ensure the full-scale operation and maintenance of the Kaleshwaram project by bringing all pump houses and associated pumping systems into effective use. He said the government should take necessary measures to maximise the project’s potential in meeting the irrigation and drinking water needs of farmers and the people of Telangana.
