Don’t sulk,! Nominated post wannabes told to wait till wrap up of SIR in state

Aspirants for nominated posts in nearly 50 state corporations are anxious following Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s remarks that such positions would not be given to leaders who spend their time visiting Gandhi Bhavan instead of actively participating in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Earlier, TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud had stated that the nominated posts would be filled by the end of this month. However, the Chief Minister made it clear indirectly that the appointments should not be announced until the SIR process, which concludes on August 3, is completed.

The Chief Minister also advised party leaders not to visit Gandhi Bhavan during this period, indicating that the announcement of nominated posts is likely to take place only after August 3. He expressed concern that several leaders were neglecting field work and were not actively involved in the SIR exercise across the districts. Revanth Reddy warned that leaders who remain inactive during the SIR campaign would not be considered for nominated chairman posts. He directed ministers, MLAs, constituency in-charges, corporation chairpersons and party leaders assigned to the SIR programme to actively participate in the field-level exercise. The Gandhi Bhavan team was also instructed to continuously monitor reports submitted by Booth Level Agents (BLAs).

Following the Chief Minister’s remarks, aspirants are now discussing that appointments to nominated posts are likely to be made only after August 3 and that their performance during the SIR campaign in their respective constituencies could be a key factor in the selection process. A senior Congress leader told The Hans India that the Chief Minister’s decision to defer the appointments until the completion of the SIR exercise was appropriate.

“The SIR process is a serious organisational exercise, and the party’s prospects could be affected if it is neglected. If nominated posts are announced during the SIR process, aspirants who are left out may become disappointed, which could affect the ongoing efforts of Booth Level Agents,” the leader said.

He added that announcing the appointments after the SIR exercise would give both the Chief Minister and the TPCC president an opportunity to assess the performance and commitment of aspirants before finalising the nominations. For now, aspirants for the nominated posts will have to wait until the SIR process concludes on August 3.
