Singareni Collieries secured the Manuguru PKOC-II Dip Side coal block, strengthening Telangana's energy security with 120 million tonnes of coal reserves and long-term mining prospects.

Kothagudem: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has secured the Manuguru PKOC-II Dip Side coal block in the Central Coal Ministry’s online auction, marking a significant milestone in the state-owned miner’s expansion strategy and strengthening Telangana’s long-term energy security.

Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka described the successful allotment of the coal block as a “historic victory” for Singareni and said it reflected the People’s Government’s commitment to protecting and expanding one of Telangana’s most valuable public sector enterprises.

Addressing the media on Monday, the Deputy Chief Minister said the achievement was the outcome of sustained efforts over the past 30 months to secure new coal reserves for the company while safeguarding the state’s energy requirements.

“Within a span of one month, Singareni has achieved two historic milestones. We recently inaugurated coal production at the Naini coal block in Odisha, secured the mining lease for the Tadicherla-II block, and today ensured the allotment of the Manuguru PKOC-II Dip Side block,” he said.

According to him, the newly secured Manuguru PKOC-II Dip Side block contains around 120 million tonnes of high-quality G-8 grade coal and is expected to produce 6 million tonnes annually for 20 years, ensuring a stable supply of coal for Telangana’s power sector.

The project is also expected to provide employment security to nearly 2,000 workers while strengthening the economic prospects of the Manuguru region, one of Singareni’s key mining areas.

Highlighting the government’s efforts to revive stalled mining projects, Bhatti Vikramarka said the Naini coal block, once considered uncertain, was brought into operation after consultations with local stakeholders and authorities in Odisha. Coal production at Naini has now commenced, providing Singareni with coal reserves expected to support operations for the next 36 years.

He further said the Tadicherla-II coal block, which had received mining approvals during the UPA government in 2013 but remained neglected for several years, was revived after the present government held discussions with the Centre. Mining leases were secured recently, paving the way for extraction of nearly 336 million tonnes of coal over the next 45 years.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the latest auction victory ended nearly a 12-year gap during which Singareni had not secured any new coal block through auctions. He alleged that previous governments failed to protect the company’s interests and allowed valuable coal blocks to be allocated to private entities instead.

He said the present government had encouraged Singareni to actively participate in competitive auctions, resulting in the successful acquisition of the Manuguru block.

“The future of Singareni and Telangana’s energy security remains our top priority. The People’s Government is committed to extending every possible support for the company’s expansion,” he said.

Bhatti Vikramarka said the government would now focus on securing the Koyagudem-III and Sathupalli-III coal blocks for Singareni and would continue pursuing opportunities to strengthen the company.

He added that SCCL was also preparing a long-term strategy to expand beyond Telangana by acquiring coal assets in other states while diversifying into exploration of critical minerals.

The Deputy Chief Minister congratulated the Singareni management, trade unions and employees for their collective efforts in securing the Manuguru PKOC-II Dip Side block, describing the achievement as a major step towards ensuring the company’s long-term growth and Telangana’s energy security.
