Weather-based crop insurance scheme in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru: TATA AIG General Insurance Company has been appointed as the implementing insurance partner for the Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) in Dakshina Kannada, Belagavi and Chikkaballapura districts for the Kharif 2026 season.

The scheme, jointly sponsored by the Central and Karnataka governments, provides insurance cover to farmers against crop losses caused by adverse weather conditions such as deficient or excess rainfall and other notified weather-related risks. With the monsoon season underway, eligible farmers cultivating notified crops in Dakshina Kannada have been encouraged to enrol under the scheme to protect themselves against potential financial losses arising from unpredictable weather.

Farmers can register through their banks, Common Service Centres (CSCs), Grama One and Karnataka One centres, or by using the official PMFBY online portal. The portal also enables farmers to check the premium applicable to their crops before completing enrolment.

Officials associated with the scheme have advised farmers not to wait until the last date and to complete enrolment within the notified deadline to ensure they receive insurance coverage for the current Kharif season.

The Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme is intended to provide financial security to cultivators by compensating them for weather-induced crop losses and helping them sustain agricultural activities despite climatic uncertainties.
