Expedite medical college construction: Tummala

Khammam: Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao directed officials to expedite the construction of the Government Medical College and the Young India Integrated Residential School in Khammam and ensure their completion within the stipulated timelines.

Inspecting the ongoing works at Raghunathapalem along with District Collector Divakar TS and Khammam Police Commissioner Sunil Dutt on Monday, the minister instructed officials and representatives of the executing agencies to prepare a phase-wise action plan for their timely completion.

Tummala said the Government Medical College should be made ready for inauguration by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy after completing all essential infrastructure works. He directed officials to finish the compound wall, hostel buildings, internal roads and other civil works, while ensuring speedy approval of revised estimates required for the remaining construction.

The minister fixed clear deadlines for various components of the project, directing that the girls’ hostel be completed by September 1 with CCTV surveillance installed to enhance student safety. Electrical works for the ground and first floors should be completed immediately to facilitate early occupation, he said.

He further instructed officials to complete the hostel buildings by September, the administrative block by October and the remaining infrastructure by the end of December so that the medical college could become fully operational. During the inspection, Tummala spoke over the phone with Health Minister C. Damodar Rajanarasimha and sought the release of an additional Rs 64 crore for completing the project. He said most of the civil works had reached the final stage and that only electrical and supporting infrastructure remained, adding that timely release of funds would enable the government to commission the institution without delay.

The minister also instructed officials to immediately bring any hurdles in the construction process to the notice of the District Collector and the government so that they could be resolved without affecting the project schedule.

Reviewing the works at the Young India Integrated Residential School, Tummala directed that all 17 blocks, including hostels, academic buildings, the parents’ lounge, kitchen, dining hall and internal roads, be completed to high quality standards.

He said the residential school should be completed and handed over to the concerned department by April next year, ensuring that it is fully functional from the next academic session.
